Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
The video will play out like this. We enter with two people arguing about where to go to eat. Then one of them comes up with an idea. He thinks of going threw the drivethru. Both people agree and head outside. They open the garage to get to their car. They unlock the car and get inside. From their on, they insert and twist the keys. They buckle their seatbelts. Then they pull out of the drive way. Now their heading off to the drivethru. The video finishes with them at the drivethru. I am not an artist. My drawings aren't that good. However, I still hope you can understand them. The final product might not be with the same angles as in the storyboard. No matter what happens, it should follow the same format. Now I will go on to work on the actual video. My next upload will be on how the filming is coming along. Until then, see you later.

Planning for my Music Video

Image
Planning The song will be on Weird Al Yankovic's "Trapped in the Drivethru." Props The props I will be using for this commercial are as follows: a hamburger, a car, and keys. Since the song is about going to a drivethru, having a burger will only be natural. By that same logic, you can't have a drivethru without driving. The keys may seem unnecessary at first but there is a specific line that refers to them, so they are needed. The video needs to align with an already existing song, so the room for creative freedom is very small. Only what is needed will be used. Costume s  The costumes for this video will be very casual. Almost makes me wonder if I should even call them costumes. The song takes place at night and is supposed to have a "just got out of bed but I'm hungry so I guess I'll do this" vibe. You will likely see me just wearing pajamas. Location  There will only be 2-3 locations: the inside of my house, my driveway and possibly a drivethru....

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

The song I will be making a video for a song by Weird Al Yankovic called "Trapped in the Drivethru." The song is a parody of R.Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet." As a parody, we should expect it to emulate traits of the genre it is based in. R.Kelly's original song is based in a mix between hip-hop and R&B. Al Yankovic's parody has the same rhythm and instrumentation as the original. The original song is about a man's journey through a large web of lies, deception and adultery. Al Yankovic's parody is just about a man going through a drivethru to get food for him and his wife. In hopes of remaining lighthearted (and school appropriate), I'll stick with Yancovic's version. Songs like this parody are narratively driven with a strong baseline and hook that sticks to the listener like glue. That is a part of the song itself so there is nothing I could or would want to do about it. As for the video, it simulates the song in that it is desig...

Intro to the Music Video Project

Image
Hello, this is Jeremiah and I'm back with another project. This time, I am going to make a music video for a song of my choice. Despite lacking as much creative freedom as the last project (since your video needs to be in line with an already existing song), I am looking forward to this project. The project this time around will be one minute at most. I will likely just use an excerpt from a song instead of a full length video. As for what song to choose, I am thinking of something fun and lighthearted. A parody tend to be those things so I am thinking of making music video for a parody. Then I thought who better to choose a parody from then the king of parodies, Al "Weird Al" Yankovic. Of all his parodies, my favorite is "Trapped in the Drivethru", a parody on R.Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet". I can already form a mental image of what it is going to look like too. I wonder if this is how people who make actual songs and videos feel. I plan on do...

Reflection Blog

Image
Creative Critical Reflection 1.       How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? The commercial is a parody of a Sour Patch Kids commercial and there are several things typical of their commercials. I have them posted in an earlier blog but they are as follows: a comedic sequence of events where sentient Sour Patch Kids terrorizes someone before showing some kind gesture, a voiceover to punctuate the sequence, and the title card at the end with the slogan. Each one was utilized in the commercial I made. I didn’t choose the first thing that came into my mind; I specifically chose Sour Patch Kids because the conventions in them allowed for a more creative and fun experience in the filming and editing process. For that reason, I always intended to follow the conventions of the commercials. The reason I chose Sour Patch Kids and not Doritos or something else with creative commercials, was because I alw...

The Commercial

Image
We did it boys! It was a challenge but I made it. Is it the best? Probably not, but I'm proud of it anyway. Hope whoever watches this will enjoy it as much as I did.

Editing Process

Image
Editing the commercial was a lot easier than I expected. I am using both my phone's built in editing software along with Clipchamp to edit the project. As I mentioned in my previous post, the filming was all done on a cellphone. The cameras in smartphones have been technologically progressing so the quality of the video wasn't an issue for me. The phone's microphone was extremely sensitive to the environment. Sounds like air conditioning and the wind are too noticeable in the audio. I considered silencing the recordings and add sound effects and lines in post, but decided not to. Since this is my first project involving recording, I figured I will be given some leeway. Plus, you need to learn to walk before you can run. Sadly, that means they will show through in the final product.     I had planned on using Clipchamp since the beginning of the project. I needed an editing software that was free to use and left no watermark, and Clipchamp was suggested to ...

Filming Process

Image
Throughout the process of filming the Sour Patch commercial, I came across a couple roadblocks. I had originally envisioned their being multiple actors. That would have allowed me to both be the cameraman and actor, since at any given point there would only be on person in frame. I have found no other people to act alongside me, so I had to do it by myself. I have found ways to work around that though. In most scenes, I pointed the camera at myself in a vlog type style, and zoomed in on my face to hide my arms. In scenes where the entire subject was in view, I used props to keep the camera in place while I worked out the scene. It was harder than if I had a partner, but I think the final product would turn out fine. If I do find someone who is willing to be a part of the commercial, I might reshot some scenes to improve the product. However, that will only happen if time doesn't prove an issue. Since I do have a deadline to produce the commercial, I will sadly have t...
