Editing Process

Editing the commercial was a lot easier than I expected. I am using both my phone's built in editing software along with Clipchamp to edit the project. As I mentioned in my previous post, the filming was all done on a cellphone. The cameras in smartphones have been technologically progressing so the quality of the video wasn't an issue for me. The phone's microphone was extremely sensitive to the environment. Sounds like air conditioning and the wind are too noticeable in the audio. I considered silencing the recordings and add sound effects and lines in post, but decided not to. Since this is my first project involving recording, I figured I will be given some leeway. Plus, you need to learn to walk before you can run. Sadly, that means they will show through in the final product.

I had planned on using Clipchamp since the beginning of the project. I needed an editing software that was free to use and left no watermark, and Clipchamp was suggested to me. However, when I had finished recording all my footage, I learned that my phone had a built-in editing software. It wasn't anything too advanced; it allowed me to trim the recordings to my desired length. Since there is a maximum amount of time used in this commercial, that came in really handy. I couldn't stitch the recordings together into one commercial, or add anything else, so I still needed Clipchamp. Since this would have been my first experience with Clipchamp, I decided to explore the options provided to me before doing anything. I was pleasantly surprised with how beginner-friendly and ergonomic it was. After that it was simply a matter of downloading my recordings to the computer. The final product should be up by tomorrow so until then, ciao.
