Creative Critical Reflection for the Music Project

Image
1. How does my product challenge conventions AND represent social groups or issues?        The genre of the music video I have made is parody and the conventions of parody are relatively consistent. Since parody exists to emulate a work of art while exaggerating its most memorable qualities for comedic effect, there are traits that would be similar in any parody. Parodies have a comedic tone and they are meant to imitate a specific artist/work. My desire was for my video to be enjoyed by itself while still being able to clearly identify where it got its inspiration from. The song I made the video for was a parody of "Trapped in the Closet". The original music video told the story of a specific person as they navigated their way through some obstacle. The music video was meant to do the same thing, but the obstacle was some everyday inconvenience that juxtaposed with the grand, dramatic tone of the original song, using the conventions of an average parody. I tried to ...

Music Video

Hello, Jeremiah here. Rough times all around on my end. I had refrained from uploading my video until the last second so I can make last-minute edits if need be. That ended up backfiring spectacularly as now my video is slightly behind and has dropped in quality. The editing software I used decided that it wanted to be my enemy today so it was almost functionally impossible to use it. It was slow and buggy so I didn't find otherwise obvious flaws in my video. The worst part about it is that this service is otherwise pretty reliable so I didn't think to plan for something like this to happen. More important are my own missteps. Instead of trying to submit a decent project, I panicked and rushed to reshoot scenes because of a nagging feeling that it wasn't good enough. In hindsight it is obvious that rushing it will result in an inferior product but you can't change the past. From the very beginning I tried to take on a two man job alone, unnecessarily handicapping mysel...

Filming Blog for the Music Video II

Howdy, Jeremiah here with another update on my music video. It is nearing completion and I am thinking it will turn out pretty good. However even this late in the game I still have my concerns. For one, I don't know if the way I filmed the music video will be engaging or entertaining. I will consider it a complete failure if I can somehow manage to bore the audience when I only need to keep their attention for a minute. If I haven't done a good job then I might have to do some reshoots. That will only be possible however if their is time for reshoots to take place. I want to take every possible opportunity before I turn in the project and I am constantly worried that I found an issue after it was too late. The only thing I can do about it is try my best and have confidence that I did a good job. Even then, it is hard not to let my nerves take over me. There is also the recurring problem that I have been running into: the time. I have decided that I will record my music video at...

Editing Blog for The Music Video

Hello again, this is Jeremiah. For the past few days I have been working on my music video. At the moment, I am working on my editing for the video. Similar to the filming, there are some problems that I have been coming across. Since it takes place at night, trying to make it watchable without overdoing the exposure is troubling. I am thinking about just using a flashlight in the night scenes but it might ruin the look of the video. I am worried about having to leave it in because I won't have time to do it over. There is also the issue of pacing. I want the content in the music video to mirror what is happening in the song when it happens. Since the music video is kind of quick, the music video will be quick as well. It worries me that the music video will be too fast and hard to watch. My final and greatest concern is the content of the song itself. I am making a music video for "Trapped in the Drive Thru", but I can't drive. That leaves me with two options. Recor...

Filming Blog for The Music Video

Hello, and welcome back to my blog. It has been a while since my last post. I had taken a break over the Thanksgiving holiday and it has done well in reinvigorating me. Currently I am in the process of filming the music video. Honestly, it has been a giant hassle. The video is being filmed in my house so there aren't any days where I can't film. I have a vast assortment of pajamas so the costumes aren't a concern. The indoor scenes are easily handled. The problem are the outdoor scenes. This video is supposed to take place during night. That leaves me with two options: film it during night as originally intended or change it to take place during the day. If I change it to take place during the day, the costumes and some lines won't make sense. Filming it at night surprisingly requires it to be nighttime. On weekdays I can't stay up too late because I have school. I have the greatest amount of time to work on weekend nights. That doesn't pose a giant problem but ...
